Jackson bit his lip and swallowed the knot that was stuck in his throat “um…” he nervously sat down and clenched his fists a bit “I…would like us to stay…only until we catch pitch” he said then looked down “I’m sorry about before. I shouldn’t have yelled at you guys before. Nor cursed. I dont know what came over me…” he said softly then looked to sandy “jack and I can care for ourselves but right now, we’re both weak and we need some help. Only for now..” he said softly but the ending of his sentence sounded slightly cold.
“Kiddo, I don’t-,” North cut Aster off with an enthusiastic ‘great!’
“Is good news,” North said to Aster, “They will be safe and have place to stay, ya?”
“…Alright,” Aster said, “But I got a few conditions of mah own. Numbah one, no more of this runnin’ away business. Second, I know ya don’t want to but I want tah get you two to a doctor and get your injuries looked at and to get you on some regiments for building up some weight. Thirdly, I’m gonna ask fer yer cooperation in catching Pitch and lastly…Apology accepted. Sound like a deal?”
Jack sighed and nodded his agreement, he would do it for Jackson…Jackson wanted to stay so Jack would do everything he could to make sure that Jackson was able to stay. Even if it meant making a trip to see doctors…doctors that would be invasive and cold and, he closed his eyes and stopped thinking about it.
Jackson stared at them, hearing the conditions. He didnt like the idea of a trip to the doctors. Both he and Jack hated the doctors and avoided them, even when little with their parents alive. Jackson would always tell Jack to be careful in the rain, or to not do anything too dangerous. Why? The doctors were like a monster in the closet for the two. They couldn’t handle looking at the doctors, no matter how kind and sweet they could be. Jackson also knew both he and his brother were unhealthily thin and weaker than a 13 year old and a 15 year old should be. What if the doctors tell North and Aster to get rid of them.
Jackson was lost in his abyss of thoughts. He didnt even hear the last condition about helping with Pitch. He cringed with his brother showing clear as day they hated the doctors but Jackson finally gulped down another knot in his throat then nodded in agreement. “O-okay…” he said softly, nervously if anything. He needed to find a way to face this fear. If he didnt, Jack would feel just as scared. Even if he was Younger, Jackson helped Jack face his fears head on and to smile his way through, Jack just somehow put the fun into everything though.
Sandy smiled at the decision and nodded to the adults then pulled out the files on doctors that could help without charging the two a arm and a leg. “This is Toothiana, a doctor and dentist, she will be able to help them” He explained to North and Aster with a smile then looked to the two teens “You both will be safe. I promise” he bowed his head a bit and smiled more. For some reason, Jackson felt very safe around the small golden haired man. He nodded and soon grew a smile on his lips.
“Ahh, I know Toothy,” Aster said, “she’ll be good for ‘em.”
“She is there now?” North asked.
“It’s only one, so I’d say so,” Aster said, “Alright kiddos shoes and coats on. We’re going now.”
Jack swallowed thickly, now? Wasn’t that a bit soon? They had only just been told that they were going to have to follow the rules. They didn’t get time to process? Aster encouraged them to get up again and Jack shared a nervous glance with his brother. They had already agreed…they couldn’t go back on it…could they?
As they were dressed for the weather and shoved in the back of a car, Sandy going back to headquarters to find more information, Jack realized they couldn’t. He gripped his brother’s hand tightly. They hadn’t been in a car before. He couldn’t remember riding with his parents at all. Maybe it was just too far away from him to remember…or he could have blocked the memories, but his stomach was swimming with anxiety and sweat lined his skin as the car was set into motion.
He didn’t want to do this.
Jackson and Jack didnt even have time to protest. They were sent up to what now was their room, and told to get warmly dressed. As the two began to bundle themselves up Jackson saw his brothers fear then smirked and kissed his lips “I bet ya the doctor is gonna be sandy just renamed!” he joked trying to get Jack to laugh and forget where they were going. Trying to make his brother less uneasy and less nervous, it would ease the tension on him too. But it was to no avail. Jack began leading Jackson down to the doorway where there it stood. A car. The door open with North and Aster awaiting them to come over and get in.
Before they could decide though, Jack and Jackson were shoved into the car. Both of them not holding one anothers hand tighter than before, clearly nervous or scared. Jackson not once was in a car before, maybe only after he was just born but otherwise, no. Jackson and mommy walked everywhere, mostly because as a wobbling toddler, Jackson tried to be independent and walk with her in the street. She even took it as a excuse to work out a bit since having Jackson.
Jack was in the car about 3 times in his life but that was all. All their memories about them were very vague. When the car was set into motion, Jackson freaked out and held onto Jackson’s arm. Looking all around the car, confused and scared about it. He bit his lip and whimpered then cuddled into his brothers neck. Unsure why he was afraid of the motion. But he soon got woozy and felt like his head was pounding. He was car sick after about 10 minutes into the car ride.
Once they made it to the doctors and they all got out of the car, Jackson rushed to a bush and fell to his knees, puking up whatever he had ate. It was a instant reaction showing he tried holding it for a while. Aster sighed realizing the child was easily car sick and had to think of a way to get them home without him throwing up again. “Oi, mate, ya alright?” Aster asked as he walked over and soon rubbed the teens back, only to get a shake of the head as a reply. “Don’ worry kiddo, we’ll get ya fixed up in a jiff” he said then soon nodded North to go inside with Jack. Giving Jackson time to finish.
Once he was done, Aster got to a knee and pulled out some travel wipes then began gently cleaning off Jackson’s cheeks. He then smiled at the teen who already was looking better and got up. “Alright, lets get ya inside” he said and soon lead Jackson in, rubbing his back along the way.
